The Wyndham Community and Education Centre Inc. is funded by the Department of Immigration & Citizenship under its Settlement Grants Program (SGP) to provide services to help newly arrived residents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to become self reliant and participate equitably in Australian society as soon as possible. Permanent residents who have arrived in Australia in the last five years as humanitarian entrants or family stream migrants with low English proficiency are entitled to make use of these services. We also assist eligible communities that need assistance and support to develop capacity to meet the needs of their members. |

SGP Casework Services |
Settlement issues that clients often seek help with include:
All casework services are free and confidential. Our Karen bi-lingual settlement workers are available to assist with a range of settlement needs and provide access to translated information. Free telephone interpreters are available for other languages. |

SGP Community Development |
|
SGP Community Development actively works on achieving positive outcomes in regards to key settlement issues for refugees and new emerging communities through recreational, educational, social and information programs. As the lead agent of the Wyndham Humanitarian Network (WHN), the Wyndham Community and Education Centre Inc. builds and maintains networks with a wide range of service providers and members of new and emerging communities, aiming to gain a better understanding of the issues culturally and linguistically diverse communities face and deliver appropriate and responsive services. The WHN undertakes community capacity building projects, organises information sessions, community fora, and multicultural festivals and produces translated information to assist in the settlement of new arrivals. |

The WHN also assists communities to develop their capacity to organise, plan and advocate for services to meet their own needs. The WHN aims to build the capacity of mainstream services to ensure they take the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse communities into consideration when planning their service provision. |
